“Electrician” is the broad category within which an auto electrician falls. However, auto electricians are specifically accustomed to working with vehicle systems. Read more about the difference between an electrician and an auto electrician below:
Electrician
An electrician is a tradesman that maintains, repairs and replaces the wiring and electrical systems found in various locations. Most electricians have a narrower field of focus, such as vehicles, industrial equipment, residential electrics and so on. Electricians that choose a specific field can be divided by their field. The main divisions are; industrial, residential, commercial, low voltage and automotive. Some electricians work only in construction, laying wire in buildings, while others, such as service electricians, are experienced in the maintenance of wires. The experience of these individuals can divide them further by separating them into three levels; apprentice, journeyman and master. An electrician that does not choose a specific field will need to gain extensive knowledge on various pieces of equipment.
Auto electrician
Much like an electrician, an auto electrician is a tradesman. The difference is that an auto electrician maintains, repairs and replaces the wiring and electrical systems found in vehicles. An auto electrician is still an electrician; however, they focus on a specific field of electrical systems. These electricians are well equipped to deal with the computers-based systems of vehicles such as cars, trucks and busses. The equipment used for this branch of electrical work is usually very specialised and requires a fair amount of hands-on training to understand. Automotive electricians may also be involved in the manufacturing of vehicle systems.
